With my recent experience of prostate cancer, I discovered that there is a lot the man in the street doesn’t know about this often fatal cancer, and some GP’s are a bit lacking in knowledge too! The information is available from the Cancer Foundation, from support groups in some areas, and from several websites, but how many people go looking for it—after all, they are confident it won’t happen to them! Been there, done that, and found out the hard way! Most of you will have seen the way the ladies are being motivated about breast cancer, and how this campaign is leading to a significant reduction in fatal cancers. Part of their campaign is the Pink Ribbon Ride. Obviously, men need to be alerted too, after all, the current death rate from prostate cancer is higher than for breast cancer, and I reasoned a Blue Ribbon Ride would be a start. When I put this to the Committee, they agreed to support me in this, so now it is an official CMAQ event we are staging in all of our present groups. The Queensland chapter of the Prostate Cancer Foundation are right behind it, and the Foundation is supplying the information sheets to be handed out (and I hope read ). McDonalds Family Restaurants at Stapylton, Caloundra and Gladstone are sponsoring it too. There will be a fee of $10 - a small portion of that will cover the badges, photocopying, mailing costs, the rest will go to prostate cancer research. The main reason for the function though, is to raise men’s awareness, and thus lead them to taking steps to have cancer dealt with before it is too late—I don’t want them to go the way three members of my family went! Well, having got that off my chest,
I will say the AGM at Bundaberg was again a great time of
fellowship, and no changes in the committee. I really think, for the health of
the Association, we should have some new faces next
year. The Sunday morning fellowship with the Wesleyans
(for a couple of us, the AOG) was great, too. We had a great weekend, but I’ll
tell you I was tired when
I got home Sunday evening! Incidentally, the pastors
at the both A.O.G. and C.O.C. at Bundy have taken up motorcycling! Now
they need to join CMAQ for extra blessed fellowship! I
am looking forward to the National Run at Maclaren Vale (why is it any
motorcycle gathering in South Aus. seems to always
end up in a wine-producing area?) It will be a real high
to meet up again with all those nice folk from the interstate CMA’s. I hope
a lot of you can join me there. Maybe with the price
war between the airlines, groups of us can fly to Adelaide
and rent a car for less than the cost of riding? You would like to see more in the Newsletter about activities in your area? So would I! I can only include information if it gets to me in the first place—I can’t run around and be a roving reporter! Everybody—group leaders, individuals, lone riders—is welcome to send in contributions, and I will include them if I have space available. Post them to me at 12 Oakwood St, Little Mountain 4551, or e-mail them to lyncol@caloundra.net Thanks Colin

You cannot grow without it. Pain and suffering are the dark strands weaving through the tapestry of your life, providing the shadows that give depth and dimension to the masterpiece God is fashioning within you. Athletes embrace stress and pain as they prepare their bodies for the contest. You are made strong and refined through your hardships and struggles. They are not a punishment for sin. They are the necessary ingredients of life if you are to grow in God’s image. If God is to mould the human clay of which you are made into something that resembles Himself, that process cannot help but be painful. So be patient! Know that your pain is not in vain, nor is it a punishment. God is too big to pick on people when, in their weakness, they fall. When you do things that are hurtful, God, like a kind father or tender mother, makes adjustments in your life to remind you that your actions are hurting others or yourself and prompts you to make changes. But God is never cruel. He accepts you where you are and is very patient as you turn ever so slowly back to His love. He weaves everything, even your sins, into good when you reach out to Him. Your life is really like a tapestry. You look at one side and see all the disconnected and loose ends, and say “What a mess my life is!” God sees the finished product on the other side and sighs “How beautiful you have become!” So don’t be discouraged or lose hope. Trust your Father in heaven. He loves you more than you can imagine.
EX-PREZ PHIL SHARED A BIRTHDAY PARTY WITH HIS
THE WORD FROM OUR PRESIDENT Here we are again and it would seem that I have the Presidents seat for another year. This last year has been both a busy and a difficult one, for my family and myself. I guess that God uses times like these to refine us. That might also be an answer to a question posed at Bunderberg, concerning a turn-over in membership over the last three years. The subjects of CMA's mission statement and purpose were raised at the AGM. These are issues that have often played on my mind. Like many of us I know that God has more intended than what is currently achieved. It would seem that many of us have given some thought to this at sometime. I feel that it is vital to our development that we find the answers to these questions. Any of the management committee would love to hear your thoughts on these issues. With this year's National run fast approaching, preparations are well underway for 2005 as it will be Qld's turn. After much consideration, prayer and a little touring of the countryside, the committee decided on Tallebudgera Sport and Recreational Centre. During the lead up to this year's national run there is much to do in regard to arranging the schedule, events, brochures etc. If you would like to contribute ideas, time or help in any way please drop a line to either one of the management committee or your area coordinator. On a final note for anyone that has my email address in his or her address book, please that my address has recently changed. It is now:-geoffrey.tansley@banana.qld.gov.au Geoff .

The Management Committee was re-elected unopposed, although several members of the Committee expressed that they would be willing to stand down and let someone else have a go. The Committee is as follows:- President Geoff T. Vice President Bert B. Secretary Alan O'R. Treasurer Neil G. Committee member at large Debbie H. The Newsletter Editor is still Col M. Most of the Area Co-ordinators were re-elected, but some declined the position, even though they are happy to continue as a contact person for the area. The areas of Wide Bay, Central Qld and Bowen/Whitsundays are without a co-ordinator at present. Neil presented the financial report which indicated a small profit for the year. Some income has been received from manning the Driver Reviver in CQ with two more sessions due in November and December. This is good fun, and well worth the time and energy, as it gives us a chance to meet people we would normally never see. A motion of thanks was passed to the Auditor, Mr Russell U. for his efforts in auditing the books. A letter of thanks has been passed on to him. Col presented his vision for the upcoming "Blue Ribbon Ride" to raise awareness and funds for prostate cancer. Rides will be held in Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, CQ and Townsville in September, with a ride in the Far North later in the year. Col has put together a lot of material and publicity for the rides. We were pleased to gain the support of a number of McDonalds Family Restaurants for the ride. Their contribution is greatly appreciated. Please pray daily for the Committee; we are all acutely aware of our own inadequacies in the roles we have and especially as we make plans for hosting the National Run in November 2005. Although it's more than a year away, much of the planning needs to be done before this year's Run so that information can be distributed at this year's Run in South Australia. Many thanks to Oli and T-J for getting train & bus timetables to us so quickly. Don't forget to cough up your yearly Membership subscription if you haven't already done so. We can't continue to supply unfinancial members with newsletters and other resources without their financial contribution. As of 30th June we had 75 financial members, up from 68 at the same time last year. New members continue to come in almost monthly, but unfortunately we lose several members each year from a failure to renew membership. It would be great to keep all our existing members and still pick up new ones. We would see significant growth if this happened. It is clear to us that God wants to use CMA to expand His Kingdom, and to make significant inroads into the motorcycling community. Let’s get behind the vision and go for it!!! Stay Upright in the Lord, Alan
O'Rourke,

This year the club went first to Sarina beach; we stayed there a while, got our card, and then it was off to Grass Tree Beach and a game of shot putt and I had ago at this. The ladies had a thong throwing contest. We nearly (but not quite) forgot to get our next card and after that it was off to the Greyhound Hotel and another card and then back to the club house for the last card and a BBQ and there was a great band as well. Sila went with us on her Virago 750. A great time was had by all .On the 17 of July I went to the British bike show. John was there as a member helping out. I was asked why I wear Christian colours (for those that don't know I wear the Christian flag on my vest front and back) and I said “so that I can be seen as someone that can help others, other wise they wouldn’t know that I was a Christian and someone that they could talk to” and once I explained that, he was OK with that. I talked about the road of destruction that I was on, and how when I met the Lord I went down a different road from what I had been on, so I was able to share my story with him and he was OK with that. There were some nice British bikes there (and others too) but the Norton was my favourite.God bless as you ride for Him. Wayne

After the meeting we had a BBQ.July 17th Fellowship lunch ride to Mingela, introduced Rob to everyone, then went as a group to City Life church that meets at 3pm at the Kirwan State High School. Our previous fellowship lunch ride was also to Mingela... they put on a great roast meal for a small price, and it's a nice ride out there.August 8th We had the meeting at our place, in attendance was John, Stacy, Adrian, Peter, Rob, Steve, David A, and Angelo C. We had some guests from Adelaide CMA, Wayne and his wife and daughter, who were up here visiting their son Nathan, who may be becoming a member here soon. We also had a new guy, Mark, who is interested in becoming a member as well, and Norm from Longriders also turned up. Lunch ride 4th Sunday of every month, beginning August 22nd, leaving Shellie's Diner at 10am riding up to Forest Beach, up north past Ingham for fellowship lunch. September 26th we will be going west to Mingela for lunch there, also leaving at 10am from Cluden BP.Saturday September 4th is the Blue Ribbon Ride. Next meeting (September 12th) will be hosted at Rob's, where we will be having a BBQ afterwards. We are in the process of planning a halfway meet with the Cairns/Atherton CMA, most likely will be at Cardwell for an overnight stay. Fellowship dinner Saturday night and biker's church on Sunday morning. The last one we had at Kurramine Beach was great. Will probably be in October at this stage. We have been invited to the Wesleyan Methodist church to do a presentation about CMA there, we are just preparing what we will present and have to fit in with the pastor when we'll be able to go there and do it. Hopefully it will be soon. We have also been invited as a group to attend the Capital Church that meets at Annandale Christian School, we just need to let them know when and they plan to put on a "feast" for us after the service.November 12th - 15th is the CMA national run at McLarenvale, about 40km south of Adelaide. We're considering flying to that one. Then there's the annual Toy Run, which we will probably join in on, which is usually towards the end of November, beginning December.Stacy
SUNCOAST GROUP ACTIVITIES Midweek Ride 2 June This was a very relaxed ride – four of us – Nigel, Ern, Leon and myself gathered at Forest Glen. An older man wandered over, looked at Ern’s bike and shook his head. He assured us he had experience of Triumphs from the ‘50s, and this wasn’t a real Triumph – no puddle of oil underneath! After a quick prayer we headed down the highway a short distance, then via Glenview Rd., Stevens Rd, Mooloolah Rd, Glasshouse Mountains Rd to Landsborough. From Landsborough we went via Old Gympie Rd to Beerwah, then via Peachester to the junction of Stanley River Rd at Cedarton. We stopped there for a short break to stretch the legs, then on to Maleny for a coffee and chat. Not wanting to get caught in the roadworks we opted to go via Montville: we still got caught though, as the roadworks had been extended nearly to Mary Cairncross Corner! A quiet ride to Montville, then down the zig-zag road to Palmwoods. At Palmwoods we dispersed; wanting to avoid the highway I went via Eudlo and Mooloolah, the others went their various ways home. It was a great way to spend an afternoon – good weather, good roads with very little traffic, beautiful scenery, good coffee, pleasant company. I look forward to more times like that.Praise God!! Colin
Sunday was a lovely morning, and we met at the Rustic Cabin for a start at 8.15. Peter turned up on his own, as Angela had to look after the girls, Leon turned up with Helen on the back, Bill brought Gwen on his deluxe model, and I had to come on my own as Lyn had heavy commitments at our church. The ride down Glasshouse Mountains Rd was pleasant, and it was heartening to see the number of car drivers who “gave us the flash” to warn of police activity ahead – unaccustomed solidarity! We wheeled in to Glasshouse Mountains and into the Lutheran church in good time. The people had no warning we were coming, but were glad to see us; apologizing because their pastor was away and the service was being conducted by a “lay reader.” They are a nice group of people and we enjoyed the service and the socializing over a cuppa afterwards. Quite a number of them were checking the bikes out, one man is restoring a ’60s Triumph and hopes to be able to ride with us occasionally soon; one young lady is agonizing over getting her licence and will probably be able to ride with us soon! For a bit of variety we rode back along Old Gympie Rd, which is very pretty. Some of us – Peter with Angela & the girls, Bill & Gwen, Lyn & I – headed up to the Superbee for a picnic lunch. All in all it was a very pleasant day.Colin SUNCOAST GROUP ACTIVITIES JULY 7 RIDE Arriving late -
sometime after 1-30pm, I was surprised to find out that I had been appointed
to lead this ride on a great sunny day. Being a new comer to the Sunshine
Coast of just five years my mind started racing to come up with a ride that
would compliment the great day we were enjoying, then my mouth said "I
don't know where to go". so with a bit of encouragement we set off for
higher ground. There were just four of us - Col, Mal, Ern and myself being the
odd man out having four letters to my name. Well as we all know "all good things must come to an end" and so it was for us, with a wave of the hand we separated at "the Rustic Cabin" to head home. It was now that I thought about my responsibilities as a Leader" and thought I did a reasonable job, doing a good speed, not too fast or slow, keeping the group together, riding safely and considering other motorist, deciding which way to get home, and having a great time. With praises to God for His blessing on the ride - Leon
RIDE 31JULY After a busy morning at church , we invited Mal & Jeanette, Bill & Gwen for a fellowship lunch today. Soon lunch was over so we set off to meet up with those who were waiting at the BP for today’s ride. Nigel was there witing for us, he was talking to a biker who rode off as I arrived.I led the group in prayer and we rode up towards Ilkley Rd then into Eudlo and a U-turn back towards Palmwoods; zig-zag around the corners via Woombye and up the range road through Dulong. By 3pm we arrived at the ‘Lily Ponds’ at Mapleton, time for a cuppa.Soon Angela arrived with our afternoon tea. The air up here was a bit cool. We fellowshipped together and worked out who was going to the AGM at Bundy. By 4.15 it was time to head home, Mal led us in prayer for a safe ride home. Mal & Jeanette headed home via Maleny, Bill & Gwen led Nigel down the range via Nambour, Angela & I cleaned up after our afternoon tea and let Sarah & Leesa play in the park, then we went to visit a friend in Nambour. We all got home by 6.45 pm. Thank you Loed for great friends and a great day out!. Keep riding for the Son! Peter May AT THE A.G.M.

OTHER ACTIVITIES Rallies—If we are serious about “bridge-building” we should make an effort to be seen at some of the rallies—though not joining in the use of illegal substances as some rally-goers do! Quite a number of the older rally-goers used to look for the Christians at the rallies.
