In November, five of our CMA
members from SA (including Trevor who went from Tindal
in NT) travelled to Burleigh Heads in Queensland for
the National Run. Bruce went with the main group which
consisted of riders from Vic & Tas for the week
prior to the National Run weekend and had some
interesting tales to tell about the floods at Parkes
on the Monday night. They saw many tourist sights and
enjoyed safe and trouble free riding. The group made
it into Grafton on the Thursday afternoon. Iain &
Naomi went straight to Grafton in two days to meet the
group and left behind a very wet Adelaide and even
some damage at their own home. I took a week and
toured to Grafton via Ballarat & Sydney where I
saw many family & friends on the way. On the
Friday morning 25 riders plus a few pillions headed
off for Burleigh Heads. We organized our own service
on the way at 11am in the main street of Wardell which
even included one of our ladies improvising to give us
the Last Post! Well done Jackie! When we made it to
the campsite at Tullebudgera we were met by none other
than our traveller from NT, Trevor. He rode down in a
bit over a week from Tindal on his Honda 200 Ag Bike,
a trip that is over 3,000 km! An amazing feat! He had
many stories to share with us of his experiences. When
you travel at about 80 to 90 kph you see so much more
and with a fairly average seat you are more inclined
to stop and take photos. Have a look at his photo
album which he put together at Toowoomba!
The National Run was attended by
about 100 people over the weekend. The highlights of
weekends such as these are relationships, both
catching up with old friends and meeting new ones. The
Spiritual Maintenance on Saturday morning was well
conducted and a great blessing for those who shared in
the small groups. A ride through the hills was
organized for Saturday afternoon with many extra
riders plus pillions coming along for the ride. The
sight of the15 immaculate Triumph Speedmaster’s and
America’s all in one line was very impressive. Adam
would have fitted in well! These riders come from
Brisbane and it was refreshing to see so many young
people involved. Saturday night and again at the
Bikers Church on Sunday morning, Reece McFadden from
the God Squad spoke. He was challenging and gave us
much to think about for our return journey.
The Gospel, “Riding with
Purpose” was well received and even though we only
had a limited supply to distribute it all worked out
well. Now we have the remaining 28,000 copies, so we
praise God for his perfect timing. The state leaders
met and it was encouraging to see that amidst a few
minor issues we have a positive future ahead. Unity is
important and our name change over the last 2 years to
CMA Australia is a Godly step as we seek to do things
together like the Gospels, Prayer support, having a
National co-ordinator and the emergence of an
interactive website. Thanks again to all of you who
supported and prayed for the National Run this year.
Start thinking about the possibilities for many more
of us to get to Tasmania next November.
Wayne Shepherd.
